The Biomineralisation Research Group makes use of a variety of techniques and facilities and has expertise across many of these.

Techniques utilised by the group include: - Transmission electron microscopy (diffraction, imaging, element analysis) - Energy Filtered TEM / Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (imaging, element analysis, valence determination) - 3D imaging and reconstruction (confocal stacking, TEM tomography) - Crystallographic analyses (electron diffraction, EBSD, dark field imaging, X-ray techniques) - Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (stable isotope detection and tracing) - Scanning Electron Microscopy (imaging, elemental analysis, charge contrast) - EDS Microanalysis (Qualitative and quantitative elemental analysis, SEM, TEM) - Optical and confocal microscopy (imaging) - Mass spectrometry (compound identification) - Magnetic analysis (magnetic properties of iron proteins) - Focussed ion beam (TEM sample preparation)
