Dr Peta Clode (Centre for Microscopy,
Characterisation and Analysis, UWA)
Peta is a senior lecturer and is
the biomineralisation research group leader. Her research
interests include biological processes of biomineralisation in
marine invertebrates (specifically molluscs and scleractinian
corals), symbiont-host interactions in scleractinian corals, and
structure-function relationships in biological tissues. Her
fields of expertise include marine biology, ion transport and
biological microscopy (SEM, TEM, SIMS, EELS, EFTEM). Click

Dr Martin Saunders (Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis, UWA)
Martin (the one on the right....) is a senior lecturer and TEM specialist, with a physics background. Martin supports the group in collection and most importantly, interpretation, of crystallographic and TEM data. He is involved in all aspects of the group's TEM research, including structural imaging, elemental analytical techniques and tomography. Click here to visit Martin's home page.

A/Prof Tim St Pierre (Biomagnetics, UWA)
Tim is an associate professor with expertise in iron physiology and metabolism, particularly in relation to iron overload diseases. Tim has research experience with iron metabolism in chitons. He has been a collaborator with David Macey for many years and became part of our group as one of Edd's supervisors. To visit the Biomagnetics home page, click here.

Dr Jeremy Shaw (Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis, UWA)
Jeremy is a senior research
associate who has recently submitted his PhD in marine and
biological sciences. His main research interests include the
cellular basis of biomineralisation in molluscs, with a
particular focus on the delivery mechanisms and control exerted
over mineralisation within the tissues and the organic matrix.
His main field of expertise is in sample preparation techniques
for both light and electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), and he is
keen to develop skills in cryogenic sample preparation.

Edd Stockdale (Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis; and Biomagnetics, UWA)
Edd originally completed a degree in zoology at UWA and is now a PhD student within the Biomineralisation Research Group working on chitons. His project mainly focuses on the fine structure of the organic matrix within the teeth of chitons, though he contributes to all the chiton biomineral projects in some form. He spends his spare time rockclimbing, chasing lizards and thinking up ways to make chitons valuable to mankind.

A/Prof. David Macey (Murdoch University)
A/Professor David Macey is a
world-renowned expert in the study of biomineralisation processes in marine
molluscs. He began as an academic studying iron physiology and biomineralisation of marine molluscs and in recent times developed collaborations with CMCA, UWA. He was Jeremy's supervisor during his PhD and is now also one of Edd's supervisors. He is currently Director - Prospective Students and Admissions - at Murdoch
University.
