WelcomeThe UWA SIMS facility is located at the Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis at the University of Western Australia in Perth. The SIMS instruments are flagships of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Facility (AMMRF), which provides access to high-end analytical techniques to the Australian academic community. The CMCA SIMS facility offers state-of-the-art stable isotope analysis and element mapping techniques to researchers from a diverse range of disciplines, including Earth and planetary science, materials science, biological science, and medicine.
InstrumentationThe SIMS facility is home to two state-of-the-art Cameca ion microprobes: the NanoSIMS 50 and the IMS 1280. We are the only laboratory in the world to house both instruments giving us a unique analytical capability. The NanoSIMS 50 was installed in 2003 and the IMS 1280 was installed in April 2009, and commissioned in August 2009.
