The Western Australian National Imaging Facility (WA NIF) node offers a broad technical platform, allowing imaging of materials, plants, and specimens, as well as preclinical small animal and biomedical human research capabilities.
The National Imaging Facility (NIF) is a multi-million dollar project providing state-of-the-art imaging capability for the Australian research community, as part of the Australian Government?s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) framework.
The WANIF aims to provide an open access platform to researchers and investigators, offering imaging solutions from mice to humans (and almost everything in between), morphology and function, on a microscopic to a macroscopic scale. We are located on the 3rd floor of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research on the QEII Medical Centre campus.

RADIOPHARMACEUTICALS
- We provide in vivo/ ex vivo pre-clinical MicroCT and MRI imaging capabilities, along with live animal in vivo fluorescence and bioluminescence, high frequency ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging capabilities. We also host a Large Field-of-View X-Ray CT scanner, dedicated to materials research.
- We provide in vivo human imaging capabilities, welcoming two state-of-the-art research-dedicated scanners: a digital PET-CT and a 3T MRI system
- Choice of PET radiopharmaceutical and availability are important aspects to consider for any PET imaging study. The WA NIF node is partnered with RAPID, the cyclotron laboratory at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, next door to the NIF facility.
